Our Practice has just started a 3 month pilot on Telephone consultation. This is with the view to releasing some of out clinic slots by dealing with some of the more simple questions and querys over the telephone. Each GP has a Telephone consultation clinic one or two times a week for half an hour. The receptionists book patients into these slots and the Doctor telephone the patients at the specific time allocated to them.

I wondered if anyone else had or has a system inplace like this and how it works for them?

Look forward to hearing from you all.

Hi wothersd
We have used telephone consultations on a daily basis for some time now, we are a six partner practice and each GP has 2/4 telephone slots per day....they are invaluable, the GP's themselves book pt's into them for follow up consultations and the reception staff use them well.....you may find in the early days that inappropriate bookings are made but it wont take too long for all concerned to get the hang of it.
Quite often patients simply want to speak to a clinician and these slots are the perfect way of doing this.
