View Full Version : No funding for anticoagulation sevices

Our PCT has told us the GMS "blue book" does no longer apply and the anticoagulation services we were planning to launch will not be funded. They argue such activity needs now to go through PBC and would want to insist on whith software we are using.

Does anyone else have this problem?
Do you know if it is correct that the "blue book" does no longer apply and practices can not develop new services without going through PBC or funding them from their own pocket?

Hi Kasa

Our PCT put the anticoag service out to tender this time last year. They gave all practices 2 weeks to put their bid together and we had to provide a full level of service using the Thrombotrack machines that give an instant reading. Suprisingly, the PCT awarded the contract to itself. It gave itself a 3 year contract so we cannot bid for the contract again for ages.

Our anticoag service has been done as a DES. I think that if there is no cohesive sysem or service in place you can apply to do the service yourself. PBC is PRACTICE based commissioning and as a practice you should be able to provide the service. You will have to convince the PCT to commission it tho.

Good luck
